The country's leading automotive manufacturer Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has officially revealed the refreshed version of the Toyota Hilux.
The 2020 iteration of the Toyota Hilux—which is still part of the eight-generation model globally—is set to sustain its claim in the pick-up truck segment with improved aesthetics and performance to match.
Back in 2019, the Hilux captured a 30.5 percent of the total segment share, which TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto is targeting to maintain.
“This 2020, the NEW TOYOTA HILUX and TOYOTA HILUX CONQUEST arrive with an impressive new look, that is more rugged and exciting than ever,” Okamoto said during the online reveal.
“The new Hilux is designed to meet the tough demands of Filipino drivers and the country's varying roads. I am confident that the Hilux would once again prove why it is the Philippines' pick-up of choice. Tough on every road, every inch a HILUX.” he added.
As Carmudi has reported since last week, the Hilux will still be powered by the reliable 2.8 liter GD-FTV diesel engine, which is fitted on the New Hilux 4x4 variants giving a maximum churn of 201 horsepower and 500 Nm torque and a lower 420 Nm for the manual transmission type.
On the other hand, the 4x2 versions only have 148 horsepower and 400Nm to provide.
Both versions improved by at least four to five percent in terms of efficiency and around 27 horsepower and 50 Nm on the output.
There are changes to the lineup of the 2020 Hilux as well, now extending to 13 variants, as a 4x2 Cargo MT variant has been added to be part of the Hilux roster.
Meanwhile, the 4x4 G—both the automatic and the manual transmission version—will be discontinued.
For its exterior, the 2020 Hilux is made more rugged and more expressive, thanks to its latest hue Emotional Red (made exclusive to the Conquest variants). Aside from that, the four top-tier variants have exclusive bi-beam LED headlamps and LED rear combination lamps with line guide, and sports bar and LED lamps.
The 2020 Hilux tech features that were once unavailable in the previous versions, such as the clearance sonar, cruise control function, and tailgate assist—have now been made available on the Conquest grade.
