Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has handed over two 29-seater mini-bus units to the Gilas Pilipinas national basketball team.
According to TMP Vice President for Marketing Service Elvin Luciano, the newly-turned-over Toyota Coaster examples were part of their support as mobility partner for the Philippine basketball team and as event sponsor of the FIBA World Cup.
Per TMP, the vehicles will be utilized by the team, the management, and coaching staff during Gilas Pilipinas’ stint at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 being co-hosted by the country from August 25-September 10.
“We at Toyota Motor Philippines are proud to join the whole country in supporting Gilas Pilipinas’ journey at the biggest basketball event in the world, especially this year when they’re set to play in front of a passionate home crowd. As we say in our Start Your Impossible campaign, when you’re free to move, anything is possible,” Luciano told Carmudi Philippines in an interview.
“We are excited to see the many amazing possibilities that Gilas Pilipinas will be able to deliver, and we hope our mobility support further inspires them to bring pride and honor to the country,” he added.
Aside from Luciano, present during turnover ceremony were Gilas Pilipinas player pool members AJ Edu, Jamie Malonzo, Kiefer Ravena, Dwight Ramos, and June Mar Fajardo, together with TMP Director and Member of the Board Vince Socco, Mediaquest and Cignal TV President and Chief Executive Officer Jane Basas, and Gilas Pilipinas team manager Butch Antonio of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
Priced at P3.978 million, the Toyota Coaster 29-seater is powered by a four-cylinder, inline 16-valve four-liter diesel engine mated to a five-speed slushbox. The Euro-4 rated mill can deliver 133 horsepower and 390 Newton-meters of torque.
Buffering the bumps on the road for its passengers are the double wishbone at the front and leaf springs at the rear.
It seems that the Toyota Coaster is TMP's love language of to the country’s flagbearers as back in 2019, the same model was given to the Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC), the national association tasked to develop Parasports in the Philippines.
