Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) recently celebrated its
16th Triple Crown--which in industry-speak means it once again led the local passenger car sales, commercial vehicle sales, and overall sales for the 16th straight year--and the carmaker marked the occasion by holding an extravagant party for its sales force at Okada Hotel in Pasay City.
As is typical of such parties, it previewed its
upcoming products for the year and a highly-placed source in one of TMP's major dealerships has told Carmudi.com.ph that one of the vehicles it showed is the
all-new Toyota Vios and that it would be launched in August.
Other than that bit, the only other information our source shared with us was that it would retain the current Vios's 1.3- and 1.5-liter Dual VVT-i engines.
If this is indeed the all-new, fourth-generation Toyota Vios, then this means we won't be getting the handsome facelift the nameplate received in other ASEAN markets in early 2017.
The current-generation Toyota Vios was launched locally in
July 2013 and was first sold with the
NZ-FE engines and either a
five-speed manual or
four-speed automatic transmissions before these were replaced with the Dual VVT-i
NR-FE engines equipped with a more fuel-efficient
continuously variable transmission.
