Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is recalling
31 units of the
Lexus LS 500 full-size luxury sedan that were
manufactured between December 19, 2017, and June 28, 2018, due to a problem with its
engine stop-start system.
The
V6 twin-turbo engine of the LS 500 has a stop-start system that automatically stops and restarts the engine when the vehicle is stationary to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions. According to TMP however, with the recalled units, its
engine control units were reportedly
programmed incorrectly, which could
restrict the volume of air taken in as the
vehicle accelerates from its stationary position and
result in the vehicle stalling.
As a preventive measure, TMP will
reprogram the vehicle's engine control unit at
no cost to its customers as well as
notify the buyers of the 31 affected LS 500 units through
official notification letters and invite them to bring their vehicles to
Lexus Manila, the sole Lexus dealer in the Philippines, for the
special service campaign.
