Toyota Motor Philippines is recalling
10,256 units of the
Toyota Alphard,
Toyota Corolla,
Toyota Vios, and
Toyota Yaris for a defect with the aforementioned vehicles'
airbag inflator.
According to TMP, it is conducting a
Special Service Campaign concerning the
propellant of the airbag inflator for the
front passenger seat which may
degrade after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures and high temperature cycling. In the event of a crash, an inflator may
rupture when the air bag deploys and may cause
metal fragments to pass through the air bag and into the vehicle interior
at high speed, which could result to injuries--or even fatalities--to the vehicle's occupants.

"With this, we will
replace the airbag inflator module with a new one,
at no cost to our customers," TMP said in a statement. "Toyota Motor Philippines will contact the affected customers through
official notification letters and invite them to bring their vehicles to Toyota dealers for servicing."
