Today, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) unveiled the Veloz subcompact SUV, further expanding the brand’s vehicle lineup here in the Philippines. Its local debut was celebrated through a nationwide launching event held by TMP, with the main program in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).
Joining the unveiling of Toyota’s newest lifestyle SUV in Taguig was TMP’s network of dealerships including Toyota PH NCR, Toyota PH South Luzon, Toyota PH Central Luzon, Toyota PH North Luzon, Toyota PH Visayas, and Toyota PH Mindanao — all of whom also revealed the Toyota Veloz at their respective showrooms.
“Today we have launched the all-new Veloz. What’s new about this launch is that we did it simultaneously nationwide with the help of all our 72 dealers,” said TMP Marketing Services Assistant Vice President Elvin Luciano in an interview with CARMUDI PHILIPPINES. “It’s our way of showing that we are ready to go out again and that we are ready to serve our customers with these vehicles. This is also a big moment for us because this is the first time we are introducing the Veloz as an SUV. This used to be the top-grade version of Avanza but now they’re two separate models.”
Notable features of the Toyota Veloz include its modern-looking front grille flanked by split-type LED headlamps with sequential turn signals. The rear boasts a set of tail lamps with LED line guide back door garnish. The three-row, seven-seater subcompact SUV rides on 17-inch alloy wheels.
Exclusive to the Philippine-spec models of the Toyota Veloz is its overfender which accentuates its SUV design.
Inside is a stylish dashboard that houses a seven-inch TFT multi-information display which sits alongside a nine-inch multimedia display equipped with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
The steering wheel is wrapped in grippy leather while the comfortable seats feature a combination of fabric and synthetic leather and can be optioned with a long sofa mode.
The Toyota Veloz is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine mated to a CVT. The powertrain setup makes 104 horses with 138Nm meters of torque — pretty dece.
With Toyota Avanza’s twin brother now getting its standalone nameplate, many of the brand’s fans are asking what its arrival means to Toyota’s other models in the segment, like the Toyota Rush, perhaps.
“All our Toyota models, they are all engineered, designed, and positioned based on very specific target markets… It’s a matter of each vehicle having different target markets,” Luciano explained. “For the Raize, as we have seen in our customers, are mostly young, first-time car buyers, those who have their careers and their barkadas in mind, they are the ones who are attracted with the Raize… For the Veloz, we are looking at families, the heads of the families, who are looking for either an additional car or a replacement car, because one of the key advantages of the Veloz is its spaciousness, especially with its sofa-folding feature. Plus, the good thing about the Veloz being an SUV is that aside from it being a functional family vehicle, it’s something that the head of the family can use for his or her personal passions… The appeal of the Rush is for those looking for an SUV with a bit of ruggedness because the Rush is very popular for its high ground clearance. It attracts customers that are looking for individuality in their ride.”
The Toyota Veloz is offered in two variants: G and V. The former is priced at P1,185,000 while the latter has a sticker price of P1,225,000.
Customers may check out the Toyota Veloz on display at the Amphitheater at Bonifacio High Street in BGC from April 29 to May 1, and get a chance to win exclusive Veloz merchandise for every test drive or inquiry. The Toyota Veloz will also be displayed in Toyota's authorized dealerships nationwide.
