The next-generation Toyota Tamaraw was recently presented before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the Malacanang.
Per Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), the presentation at the Palace showcases its commitment to the development of local automotive manufacturing industry and economic growth.
Marcos expressed gratitude over Toyota’s growing investment — the latest being the P5.5 billion outlay intended for the production of the next generation Tamaraw — known regionally as the Toyota Innovative International Multi-Purpose Vehicle (IMV) 0 (Zero).
The earmarked amount covers vehicle production, parts localization, and the establishment of a new in-house vehicle conversion facility.
Key officials from Toyota Motor Asia and TMP brought several Tamaraw prototype conversion units at the Malacanang.
Further, TMP also gave a letter of intent to the country’s chief executive, stating its plan to donate five Toyota Tamaraw units to the government.
Converted into ambulances, the vehicles shall be used to support various mobility needs through the “Lab For All” health program of the First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos. They will be turned over next year.
Aside from the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw, Toyota also showed the Corolla Cross H2 Concept to Marcos — underscoring the brand’s multi-faceted approach towards sustainable mobility.
Continuously being developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing in Japan, the hydrogen-powered concept crossover utilizes hydrogen gas from a local producer and filled through a Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) imported from an end-use application provider in Malaysia.
“For Toyota’s point of view, we would like to provide the most suitable vehicle technology for the country’s specific energy strategy. Matching multi-pathways with energy, Toyota has many powertrains available and currently being developed,” Toyota Asia Region Chief Executive Officer Masahiko Maeda said.
To recall, both the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw and Corolla Cross H2 were displayed recently-concluded 9th Philippine International Motor Show to highlight the global marque’s “Beyond Zero” strategy.
