Alongside its sedan sibling the Vios Ativ, the Yaris hatchback was also given a slew of updates by Toyota Thailand. Among the updates is an introduction of the X-Urban variant.
The Yaris X-Urban is a hatchback garbed in an SUV-inspired suit. The outfit consists of a raised ride height, 16-inch five-spoke wheels in black, black body cladding on the sides and wheel arches, and silver trims on the bottoms of the bumpers that pretend to be bash plates.
Just like the regular Yaris, the X-Urban can also have a two-tone paint job in which the upper half of the car is painted black. The cars' color options are gray, silver, black, white, and the Red Mica Metallic which could be reserved for the X-Urban. Cyan Metallic also comes with a black roof.
Inside, the SUV-wannabe sets itself apart from the regular Yaris with red details on its leather seats and steering wheel. Being a hatchback, the one-box shape of the rear means that bulkier items can be stored, especially with the rear seats' 60:40 split folding function.
And being related to the Vios Ativ, the Yaris and Yaris X-Urban share the same feature content. Among these features are safety systems such as pre-collision system, lane departure alert, hill climb assist, multiple airbags, and reversing camera.
A 6.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto add to the list of similarities, as does a 4.2-inch TFT color driving information display. The subcompacts also carry rain-sensing wipers, two USB ports, and an electro chromic rearview mirror.
It's the same story under the hood, too, as the Vios Ativ, Yaris and Yaris X-Urban are powered by a 1.2-liter engine with 90hp and 109Nm of torque. A CVT is paired to the powerplant.
When the Thai Baht prices are converted to local currency, the Yaris X-Urban, with all the bells and whistles, goes for roughly P1.05 million. The standard car costs around P824,000.
Meanwhile, choosing any of the optional accessories will likely bump the prices up. Toyota Thailand is offering a Gazoo Racing (GR) branded pillow, blanket, seatbelt covers and license plate frame, an emergency kit with a roadside triangle and jumper cables, front and rear security cameras, reversing sensors, and a cargo floor rubber mat, among others.
