Toyota ensured that the new gasoline mill will deliver more power and more torque than its predecessor. On paper, the new 2.4-liter powerplant makes up to 228 horses — 11 percent more powerful than the first-gen’s 2.0-liter engine — and around 250Nm of almost instantaneous torque.

The beefier engine can either be mated to a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. The former zooms from zero to sixty in about 6.1 seconds while the latter speeds from standstill to sixty in about 6.6 seconds.
