Toyota is celebrating its 10th anniversary of the 86 sports car in Australia by releasing a limited-edition option for the nameplate’s latest version there.
Per Toyota Australia, the GR86 10th Anniversary Edition will only have 86 examples that will be available in six-speed manual or automatic gearboxes.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley shared that the addition of the 10th Anniversary Edition reflected the popularity of the model in Australia. “When it launched in 2012, the first-generation 86 struck a chord with those looking for an affordable sports car representing great value with Toyota reliability,” Hanley said.
"This new 10th Anniversary Edition channels the spirit of the original 86 while introducing a range of unique design touches, along with all upgrades that the GR86 delivered when we launched it last year," he added.
Based on the flagship GTS variant, the Toyota GR86 10th Anniversary Edition sports a unique Solar Orange exterior paint scheme — a nod to the original "hachi roku" first revealed to the world in late 2011.
The color continues to the vehicle’s interior with contrast stitching applied to the steering wheel, handbrake lever and boot, shift boot, seats and door trim. Orange stripe accents are also present on the Ultrasuede/leather accented seats, while the inside of the door trims has a 10th-anniversary orange embroidery.
Further, the instrument panel now has black molding, instead of silver.
It can be recalled that the Japanese automotive marque released the Toyota GR86 Special Edition in June last year, which is limited to 860 units. The said offering also shared the same hue, though it is fitted with a different wheel design.
Similar to the other grades, the aforementioned rear-wheel-drive offering is equipped with a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine that can provide a maximum churn of 233 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque.
Since it is based on the Toyota GR86’s top variant in the Land Down Under, the 10th Anniversary Edition is fitted with 18-inch black alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, heated front seats, aluminum pedals, an eight-inch multimedia display, seven-inch multi-information display and two-zone automatic climate control.
The latest offering has five different vehicle stability control settings ranging from full support to being completely switched off.
Available for purchase starting today at Toyota showrooms in Australia, the price of the GR86 10th Anniversary Edition starts at $46,700 (around P1.735 million) plus on-road costs.
Per Toyota Australia, Gazoo Racing Club members were offered the opportunity to acquire priority access for expressions of interest when ordering the strictly limited 10th Anniversary Edition.
In the country, the retail of the latest-generation Toyota GR86 started in the third quarter of 2022. Per Toyota Motor Philippines, the manual transmission version is now priced at P2.348 million while the option fitted with an automatic gearbox has a P2.519-million price tag.
