Tugade lauds concerted efforts to improve EDSA traffic
The leadership of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) lauded the unified efforts of government that has led to the improved flow of traffic along EDSA.
During his presentation before top-level executives of the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) general membership yesterday, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade noted that several factors led to the improvement of travel time along the major thoroughfare.
Although heavy traffic still happens along EDSA even during the pandemic, the pooled efforts of agencies introduced a more organized system such as the EDSA Busway among other initiatives made by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“The pandemic may have resulted in less congestion, but with the help and support of the MMDA and completion of other crucial projects to ease traffic flow, such as the EDSA Busway of DOTr, the much improved operation of the MRT-3, and Skyway Stage 3 of DPWH, solutions are coming together to address the problem of perennial traffic in EDSA," Tugade was quoted as saying.
Further, the transportation secretary vowed to step up efforts in transforming the country’s transportation system, with only over a year left remaining in the Duterte administration.
“Is it the end? Hindi po. Bagamat ito na ang nagawa at gusto pa nating gawin, (No, this is what we've done and will continue to do) until we finish the term of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Our ambition, hand-in-hand with the President and following his mandate is to make the Filipino life convenient and comfortable,” he said.
