The typhoon Odette ravaged the Visayas and Mindanao regions, leaving a trail of destruction last weekend, destroying more than P300-million worth of damages in public infrastructure alone.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much is initial estimate for the damages caused by Typhoon Odette?

According to the Department of Public Works and Highways said that the damage is now worth P308.9 million.
  • How many impassable roads are there currently?

Based on the latest tally, 11 roads are still closed to traffic.
  • In its Facebook page post last Sunday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) estimated that the damage to public infrastructure has reached P308.9 million — broken down to P79.5 million worth of damages to roads, P90 million to bridges, and P139.4 million in flood-control structures.

As of the said update, the department is still clearing out 11 impassable roads in five regions.

In Puerto Princesa, the Langogan Bridge (which was damaged) and another section within the same barangay (suffered from landslide) was left impassable.

Aside from that, road segments in Carmen and Tagbilaran East Road in Poblacion, Alicia — both in Bohol — are closed due to fallen trees.

Several portions of roads in Southern Leyte were also blocked due to fallen trees, electric poles and other debris.

Relatedly, the closed sections in Bukidnon (portions of Misamis Oriental-Bukidnon-Agusan Road, in Barangay. Siloo and Barangay. San Luis, Malitbog) are because of the damaged spillway at Siloo Bridge and soil collapse.

Further, the Butuan City-Cagayan de Oro City-Iligan City Road, Old Mambayaan Bridge in Misamis Oriental is also closed to traffic after being damaged; the Dinagat-Loreto in Mahayahay, San Jose, Dinagat Islands due to road slip; and NJR Bah-Bah-Talacogon Road in Barangay Sto. Nino, Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur due to damaged roadway.

Meanwhile, Pilipinas Shell shared that as of Saturday, numerous gas stations in the badly-battered central and southern portion of the country are open to serve the public for essentials and to gas up or get their vehicles checked.

According to the oil company, 19 stations in Metro Cebu; 23 in Cebu upcountry, Bohol and Palawan; 26 in Samar, Leyte, Biliran; 32 in Negros Island and 39 in Panay Island are ready to serve customers.

Further, Pilipinas Shell noted that it has the following stations operational in Mindanao:

    • Davao City and Davao del Sur (48 stations)
    • South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos (48 stations)
    • Zamboanga Peninsula (33 stations)
    • Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon (37 stations)
    • Caraga Region and Davao del Norte (36 stations)
    • Lanao, Misamis, Dipolog (35 stations)

President Rodrigo Duterte has reportedly pledged a P2 billion worth of assistance to local governments of provinces hit by the typhoon.
