UK market receives its one-millionth Mini
Arguably, no subcompact car is as akin to the United Kingdom as the Mini. In some examples, models from the British automotive marque even donned the Union Jack on its roof, exterior panels, and on its taillamps.
That said, it’s not surprising that in just over 20 years — after the BMW Group took over the reins at Mini — the brand has reached one million units in sales in the UK, its largest market.
“To have sold over one million Minis in just 20 years is a remarkable milestone; we are all extremely proud. This achievement is a testament to the fantastic cars we’ve built and launched during that time, our customers’ continued love for Mini, and the strength and unwavering dedication of our retail network,” said Mini UK Director David George.
George added, “As we see the increasing demand for our Mini Electric and Mini Countryman Plug-In Hybrid models, which account for nearly a fifth of global electrified sales, we’re excited to see what the next 20 years hold, as we transition into our fully electric future.”
Mini’s one-millionth milestone also marks an important transition for the marque. According to Mini, it will launch its last model outfitted with an internal combustion engine in 2025, and by 2027, the share of all-electric vehicles in global Mini sales will be at least 50 percent.
The Mini Electric, for one, has sold around 3,000 units in the UK as of July last year. The electrified version of the British subcompact icon offers seating for four and is powered by a 184hp (135kW) electric motor with an estimated range of 140 to 145 miles.
Tons of personalization options allow UK customers to get anything from an 8.8-inch infotainment system with RTTI, Apple CarPlay, and Mini Connected features to Mini’s Park Assist which allows the Mini Electric to park itself.
Seeing the bright electric future ahead, Mini looks to become the first BMW Group brand to go fully electric by 2030.
