The Toyota Hilux has been one of the Japanese automaker’s best-sellers with sales of around 13,637 units in 2020, second only to the Vios in Toyota’s overall sales last year.
Over the years, the nameplate has proven to be more than just a pickup. It’s created countless stories of inspiration and motivation, making it a vehicle that allows the Filipino people to conquer every course. Today, we get up close and personal with the Toyota Hilux.
The Toyota Hilux has earned a reputation not only as a family carrier but also as a pickup truck that is a symbol and vessel of hope for many amid times of uncertainty. That said, the Toyota Hilux is often the vehicle of choice for humanitarian efforts, here and abroad.
In 2018, Toyota Motor Philippines donated a Hilux to Conservation International (CI) Philippines to be used for conservation projects in the Verde Island Passage, one of the richest marine biodiversity in the world. The said Hilux ferried volunteers for coastal clean-up and mangrove-planting along the coast of Lian, Batangas, as well as to support the entire marine biodiversity conservation project.
The following year, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) donated 180 units of the Toyota Hilux to the Philippine Coast Guard (PGC). The fleet of Toyota Hilux was used by the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PGC) Special Operations Force and rescue response team to access flood-prone areas and provide assistance to communities during calamities.
Overseas, the Toyota Hilux also played several roles in various humanitarian projects. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) donated 20 Hilux pickup trucks to the Yemen Executive Mine Action Center (YEMAC) in 2019. These trucks were used to transport desperately needed humanitarian aid for Yemenis in need of assistance.
In addition, the Toyota Hilux, along with the Toyota Land Cruiser, were also among the vehicles used by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) in Liberia for the enhancement of the agency’s mobility in mitigating disasters and disaster-related issues.
Ask an owner what he or she loves about the Toyota Hilux and you can expect these three words for an answer: quality, durability, and reliability. The nameplate offers new and innovative features that complement classic Toyota build quality.
It’s loved by many Filipino families because of its ability to conquer various road conditions as well as keep its passengers safe and secure whether it’s on smooth pavement or on rough roads.

These powerplants can be mated to a slew of transmission options including the intelligent manual transmission featured on the Conquest 4x4 MT.
