BMW announced that the upcoming eight-generation 5 Series will get two additional variants: a hybrid and an all-electric performance model.
Thanks to its flexible architecture, the new BMW 5 Series can accommodate various powertrain setups, including a highly efficient internal combustion engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.
“The all-electric BMW i4 M50 shows how BMW blends dynamic performance and electric mobility to perfection. It was the best-selling BMW M model worldwide in 2022. A fully electric Performance model from BMW M GmbH will also be included in the new BMW 5 Series line-up,” BMW Chairman of the Board of Management Oliver Zipse said at the recently held BMW Group Annual Conference 2023.
In addition to having various powertrain options, the new BMW 5 Series will also come with the latest BMW Operating System (8.5) with the BMW Curved Display and innovative digital services.
The new BMW 5 Series will be built exclusively at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing where models like the 7 Series, 8 Series, and the all-electric BMW iX are made. Production of the new 5 Series will start in the same year the plant marks 50 years of manufacturing BMW models.
More details are expected to be revealed as the eight-generation BMW 5 Series nears its global debut this October.
