Upcoming access road in Aklan to boost tourism, marine economy
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently accelerating the construction of an access road in the town of Makato, Aklan that could further boost the economy in the area.

Neighboring barangays of Tugas, Calimbajan, Baybay, and Alibagon as it will also help speed up the travel to fishing facilities.In a statement, DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Nerie Bueno was quoted as saying that the project — being fast-tracked in convergence with the Department of Tourism (DOT) — is 1.74 kilometers long and 6.10 meters wide.
The DPWH noted that as current, the DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office has already concreted some 550 lineal meters of the road and is currently fast-tracking the paving of the remaining portion of the project that has a working budget of P33.3 million.
“When completed, the two-lane access road project will provide a better roadway leading to beaches in Barangay Baybay and to Bakhawan Park located along the river in Barangay Alibagon, which can potentially boost the economy and tourism industry in Makato,” Bueno said.
The department noted that the completion of the access road will benefit those living in the neighboring barangays of Tugas, Calimbajan, Baybay, and Alibagon as it will also help speed up the travel to fishing facilities.
