While the upcoming Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has yet to go on sale, the Italian carmaker has stated that the latest variant of its flagship model--which will go on sale later this year-- has claimed the production car lap record for the Nürburgring Nordschleife track at six minutes and 44.97 seconds.
With Lamborghini factory driver Marco Mapelli behind the wheel and with extensive support from Pirelli, the run was timed during an exclusive session on the track using VBOX Racelogic instrumentation.
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ makes use of more lightweight materials to give it an impressive power-to-ratio of only 1.98 kg/hp. It's also fitted with Lamborghini's patented ALA 2.0 active aerodynamics system with aero vectoring for improved handling and downforce as well as new aerodynamic features specific to the SVJ. In addition, the Aventador SVJ has supposedly been re-engineered to enhance its four-wheel drive system, rear-wheel steering, and electronic stability control. Its steering, for example, is significantly stiffer than that of the Aventador LP 750-4 SV. And while the Aventador SVJ will ride on specifically-developed Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires as standard, the optional Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires were mounted for the lap-time attempt.
With all these changes over the "standard" Aventador, a virtual simulation of the Aventador SVJ on the Nürburgring Nordschleife prior to its run on the real thing bettered the production car lap record previously held by the Lamborghini Huracán Performante of six minutes and 52.01 seconds.
"The Aventador SVJ takes the Jota suffix, following the Lamborghini tradition for denoting a car’s track-focused talent," said Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Stefano Domenicali. "This new car is the convergence of Lamborghini technologies to produce a super sports car that transcends current performance benchmarks."
"Its tenure as the Nürburgring lap time record holder, even before its unveiling during the Monterey Car Week in California in August, endorses Lamborghini’s competence in applying superlative design engineering and ground-breaking technologies," Domenicali added. "The SVJ is a super sports car at the zenith of performance, while also ensuring unrivalled driving pleasure."
