The leadership of Japanese automotive manufacturer Mazda has dropped another bomb when it announced that they would be introducing the all-new Mazda BT-50 late this year.
During a virtual meeting, Mazda Philippines President Steven Tan said that it would be unlikely for the upcoming pick-up model to be out in the first of the year and will be out most likely at the latter part of the year.
It was November last year when Tan announced that they will bring the forthcoming version in 2021, during the online reveal of the Mazda BT-50 4x4 Pangolin.
This would mean that it would be giving the all-new Isuzu D-Max a head start in the market. The forthcoming pick-up trucks are slated for launch this year, but the Isuzu D-Max would come out earlier, as it is slated for this coming March.
In an interview, Tan expressed confidence on the timing of the vehicle launch, saying that they are not far off in introducing the model to the Philippine market. “It’s a long game,” Tan told Carmudi Philippines.
After almost a decade of preserving the same design, the Mazda BT-50 (which now sports a chunkier design) shares the Kodo-Soul of Motion design language found in its stablemates.
Available in other markets, the incoming Mazda BT-50 is equipped with a 3.0-liter diesel engine that delivers 187 horses and 450 Nm, good for a towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms. Measuring 5,280mm long, 1,870mm wide, and 1,790mm tall, this model has a wheelbase of 3,125mm.
