The updated Land Rover Discovery, featuring mild-hybrid power and trick off-road tech, has been unveiled by local Jaguar Land Rover distributor All British Cars (ABC).
The new Discovery is powered by a three-liter, straight-six Ingenium diesel engine, featuring a 48-volt mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) technology. The mill generates 245hp and 570Nm of pull.
What the MHEV tech does is store energy generated when the SUV decelerates, then reuses the power to assist the engine when accelerating. ABC said that the powertrain provides "six-cylinder performance and four-cylinder efficiency."
The 48V MHEV technology ensures the new engines "meet the most stringent global emissions regulations and deliver improved responses." An eight-speed auto is mated to the powertrain.
ClearSight Ground View technology, meanwhile, provides the Discovery driver a view of the ground directly underneath the vehicle using a combination of forward-facing cameras. It displays the image of the terrain below through the touchscreen, as if the Discovery's hood is invisible.
The feature can support the driver when negotiating steep off-road inclines or hidden urban obstacles, ABC said.
With Terrain Response technology, the Discovery is always ready to suit the driving conditions. Wade Mode optimizes the vehicle for deep water fording, even applying the brakes automatically when the driver disengages Wade Mode, to restore full performance from the first application of the brakes.
The Discovery is priced at P6.49 million and it brings with it other highlight features.
The SUV now wears LED headlights, with a daytime running light set lower into the units to create a more purposeful look. A revised front bumper and new side vents lend a sportier appearance.
At the rear, LED lights are complemented by a new gloss black panel. Following Land Rover’s reductive design philosophy, this panel incorporates the trademark Discovery script.
Inside, seven-seats and Land Rover’s cutting-edge Pivi Pro infotainment are found. A completely redesigned center console houses Pivi Pro's 11.4-inch, full HD touchscreen, which provides a fast and intuitive interface. The Intelligent Seat Fold function configure the seating layout via the touchscreen as well.
The Discovery's high-resolution digital instruments can be configured to show either a pair of conventional dials, full-screen 3D navigation guidance, or a combination of the two.
Smartphone integration is also simple, thanks to Apple CarPlay, while the advanced Bluetooth technology can connect two smartphones simultaneously. Android Auto is also available as standard.
The new Discovery's second-row seats have been carefully redesigned for enhanced comfort. Improved lateral support, longer and thicker cushions, and careful seat profiling all contribute to greater under-thigh support and improved posture for occupants.
The new Land Rover Discovery is available for viewing at All British Cars's showroom in Greenhills, and at its BGC Boutique Showroom.
