US sales of Subaru Solterra e-SUV to commence in 2022
Subaru of America announced that the Solterra electric SUV is scheduled to go on sale in 2022.
The Solterra, which was named from the Latin words for “sun” and “earth,” is built on the e-Subaru Global Platform EV architecture. The brand's first pure EV promises to bring the brand’s trusted reliability, advanced safety technology, and legendary all-wheel-drive.
Subaru USA said that the brand that has 96 percent of its vehicles, sold in the last 10 years, still on the road today.
With standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and generous ground clearance, the Solterra is said to be capable in all roads and all weather conditions. Meanwhile, the Solterra's interior will come "equipped with all the cabin technology (expected in) a modern SUV."
The Solterra is not the only representative of Subaru's green initiative. Subaru of America said it is the largest corporate donor to the National Park Foundation.
Sharing a platform with the Toyota bZ4X, the Solterra will feature a long wheelbase with short overhangs for maximum interior space. Toyota said the bZ4X's open-concept interior aims to enhance driver comfort and confidence, so it's likely this concept will appear in the Subaru, too.
It's been speculated that the range of the two e-SUVs will hover from 400 to 480 kilometers. The bZ4X's US release is also scheduled for 2022.
