Venue is Hyundai's Newest Pint-Sized, 'Boxy, Bold, and Bull-Doggy' Crossover

Tiny it might be, but it's loaded with personality. Meet Hyundai's small crossover, the Hyundai Venue. This A-segment crossover is slotted under its bigger sibling, the Hyundai Kona, but that's where similarities end.

In an interview with MotorTrend, Sanygyup Lee, head of Hyundai's Global Design Center in Namyang, Korea, explained the difference:

"It's smaller and it's distinctively different than Kona," Lee said.

He also added that they had to make it boxy to accommodate its small size.

"So imagine Kona as a really fast profile, distinctive, iconic character to it, but this one is almost very boxy, bold, bull-doggy character."

Still, that's not to say that the design is boring. The word Venue "embodies the characteristics of 'the place to be,' en route to the final destination, wherever that may be," according to Hyundai.

It's a mixture of "playful and practical features including seamless safety, versatility and connectivity" according to Autoblog, with doors almost having a MINI Clubman "vibe", according to Motor1.com. And if you add its fresh, youthful exterior to the mix, it's easy to see how it can easily attract a younger generation of drivers looking for cheap yet dependable vehicles. It's a perfect vehicle for first-time drivers and even small urban entrepreneurs, because the Venue is one--if not the most affordable cars--in Hyundai's lineup today.

So far, the company hasn't released any technical specifications yet, although some car experts guess that it will be a four-cylinder engine and front wheel drive.
