In Vietnam, VinFast’s best-sellers are the VF 3 and VF 5.According to the Vietnamese carmaker, the said figure brings its total domestic EV sales to over 51,000 as of this year.
The said feat solidifies the electric car manufacturer’s position as the best-selling automotive brand in Vietnam since the beginning of 2024.
Best-selling models
VinFast’s two best-selling models in Vietnam are nameplates that have been made available for the Philippine market — the VF 3 and VF 5.
The former is a compact city car while the latter is a capable crossover.
Per VinFast, the success of the two electric cars is due to “a strong
foundation of pre-orders, robust production capacity, a growing dealership network, and a nationwide charging infrastructure,” which makes the company “well-positioned for continued growth and market dominance,” in their home country.
As a result, the VinFast VF 3 contributed to an approximate sales figure of 5,000 while the VF 5 added some 2,600 units to the brand’s overall turnover.
VinFast VF 3, VF 5 PH specs
In the Philippines, the VinFast VF 3 is powered by a single permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) paired with an 18-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion battery.
The said setup makes 43 horsepower (hp) and 110 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque, sending power to the rear wheels.
As for its range, the said city car is able to go as far as 215 kilometers (km) on a single charge.
It costs P745,000 and is sold with a battery subscription program, cutting the initial ownership cost to P645,000. The VinFast VF 3 comes in as an accessible EV for those who live within the city and are not required to haul heavy loads nor cover long stretches of roads.
Meanwhile, the VinFast VF 5 gets a single PMSM complemented by a 38.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. In unison, the electric powertrain propels the crossover with 100 hp and 135 Nm of torque sent to the front wheel axle.
With an estimated emissions-free range of around 326 km, the VinFast VF 5 is able to answer the travel needs of many Filipino car buyers who wish to transition to a cleaner, greener means of mobility.
It costs P1.191 million without a battery subscription plan, but its sticker price can be brought down to P92,000 when bought with a battery program.
Significant milestone
According to VinFast, its success in the Vietnamese automotive industry can be seen as a win and a significant milestone for the company.
For starters, VinFast became the first local company to have outsold foreign brands after just five years in. Moreover, it is the first EV brand in Vietnam to have outsold gasoline-powered competitors. The marque has achieved the said feat just two years after it transitioned to a pure EV company.
“VinFast currently offers seven electric vehicle models across various segments in its home market, from compact SUVs (sport utility vehicles) to large electric SUVs. With competitive pricing, VinFast's EVs offer compelling value propositions compared to gasoline-powered vehicles in the same segments,” VinFast said in a press statement.
“Beyond the domestic market, VinFast is actively expanding its global footprint to key markets in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, including the United States, Canada, Germany, France, and other regions,” it added.
