Volkswagen celebrates Jetta’s 40th anniversary with limited-run trim

The Volkswagen Jetta GLI 40th Anniversary Edition is powered by a 2.0-liter engine mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.Per the German carmaker, the said limited-run grade will be offered in three exterior colors — Pure Gray, Pure White, and Rising Blue — with blackout detailing from front to back contrasting with the GLI’s trademark red trim.
Other notable exterior appointments will come in the form of a grille, mirror caps, door handles, and spoiler black. It will also ride on sleek 18-inch wheels in the same hue.
Inside, the Volkswagen Jetta GLI 40th Anniversary Edition offers embossed molecular cloth seats. The seats, the Wolfsburg-headquartered carmaker pointed out, are uniquely fabricated for the offering and will vary in each of the vehicles produced like a one-of-a-kind fingerprint.
Engraved cupholders feature the GLI logo in one and 1984 in the other, while seat tags and front door sills read “GLI 40” and the steering wheel bears a “40” clip at the six o’clock position.
Power will come from a turbocharged EA888 2.0-liter engine delivering 228 horsepower and 350 Newton-meters of torque. The mill will be mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Also featured are larger brakes, a Sport HMI performance monitor, VAQ electronically-controlled torque-sensing limited-slip differential and XDS electronic differential lock, the DCC adaptive damping system, and a sport exhaust.
The Volkswagen Jetta GLI 40th Anniversary Edition will only be offered in North America and will be produced in a limited run of 1,984 units. It is priced from $28,085 (approximately P1.531 million) for the manual transmission-equipped model to $28,885 (around P1.574 million) for the DSG transmission model.
It will arrive in United States dealerships this late summer (from June, July, and August).
