Volkswagen Golf now comes with 1-liter petrol engine
Volkswagen Golf may have bid "adieu" in the Philippines, but that doesn't mean it has reached the end of its days. On the contrary, the latest iteration of the Volkswagen Golf GTI is considered one of the most popular cars in the U.K. With the addition of a 1-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine as a new entry-point to Golf, Volkswagen has now made it even easier for everyone to own one from there.
Now with six powertrains to choose from, the 8th-generation Golf offers two 1.5-liter gasoline engines, two 2-liter diesel units, the advanced 1.5 eTSI mild-hybrid, and of course, the 1-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine that's offered exclusively on Golf's Life trim with manual gearbox.
This engine is capable of sprinting from 0-100 kph 10.2 seconds, before going on to a top speed of 203 kph.
It comes with a standard with 16-inch ‘Norfolk’ alloy wheels and automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors with memory feature, and a keyless start feature.
Aside from the basic 1.0-liter TSI 108 hp three-speed engine, the new Volkswagen Golf Life variant also has a six-speed manual gearbox option. It comes with a TSI Miller combustion process and a turbocharger with variable turbocharger geometry.
The result is a decreased lag time due to its ability to produce "boost" even during lower speeds; and increased efficiency due to an increase in fuel and air intake in the cylinders.
The Golf Life showcases Volkswagen’s advanced Innovision Cockpit that merges Digital Cockpit Pro with a 10-inch screen into the car’s instrument binnacle. It also comes with a large and clear 10-inch Discover Navigation touch-screen infotainment system.
Its standard safety features include Car2X, Adaptive Cruise Control, a Driver Alert System, Dynamic Road Sign Display, Lane Assist and also Front Assist, with extended pedestrian protection measures.
Dale Piper, Golf Product Manager at Volkswagen UK, said: “The Golf is one of the UK’s most popular cars, both for new- and used-car customers. One of the many reasons for its success is the way it offers compelling value for money, and this entry-point to the Golf 8 range is a great example.
“Featuring the latest technology and highest levels of quality – along with class-leading efficiency – this new 1.0-liter TSI 110 PS option brings the possibility of new Golf ownership to even more people.”
