Volkswagen Now Offers Basecamp™ Accessory Line for Atlas Models
There's something extra special that Volkswagen is adding to its Atlas models: a Basecamp accessory line. Available as an individual accessory or as one set in a styling package, these add-ons will surely give this off-roader vehicle a more unique look and better versatility.
"The public interest and customer enthusiasm sparked by the Atlas Basecamp concept created a strong business case to further explore off-road-themed components for production," said Hein Schafer, Senior Vice President of Product Marketing and Strategy at Volkswagen of America.
These "off-road-themed components" drew inspiration from the design of the Atlas Basecamp concept, which was unveiled at the 2019 New York International Auto Show. That time, the German company showed viewers how the Atlas could be transformed into a mountain biker’s dream touring machine.
“Whether you are taking on a series of challenging single-tracks with your favorite mountain bike or enjoying a relaxing evening under the night sky, the versatility of the Basecamp Concept provides ideal mobile solutions for just about any adventure,” said Alex Earle, exterior design manager at the Volkswagen Design Center California.
Relatively new in the SUV scene, the Altas Basecamp Concept is also a camper's dream come true, with amenities that include a a hot shower with a portable toilet. It also has a kitchenette that includes a compact refrigerator or freezer combo, a stove, and a sink.
And now that the Basecamp accessory line is now added for Atlas models, expect better functionality and more personalized features that cater to individual needs.
"Our goal is to provide customers with an extensive catalogue of accessory options that cater to their desires for distinctive styling and functionality," said Schafer.
The Basecamp sytling package for Atlas models include a two-tone satin silver and textured anthracite front bumper guard, textured anthracite fender flares with integrated splash guards, satin silver side door rocker panels, and satin silver rear valance with trailer hitch access. This kit also comes with exclusive front quarter-panel-mounted Basecamp badges that are not offered separately.
Note, however, that this styling package is does not go well with models equipped without a trailer hitch. Moreover, it's not compatible with R-Line trims.
The accessory line also offers a production version of the unique 17-inch Traverse MX wheels customized just for the Volkswagen by fifteen52. These wheels, which made its first appearance in the Atlas Basecamp concept vehicle last year, come in two colors: frosted graphite and radiant silver. According to Volkswagen of America, the 245/70R17 all-terrain tires complement its design.
