Volkswagen PH to Cease Selling Volkswagen Golf GTS, Volkswagen Jetta
If you've been planning to buy a Volkswagen Golf GTS yet have so far failed to heed Volkswagen Philippines' call to acquire one "while supplies last," we strongly suggest you do so now as we've been told that the German carmaker will cease to import the model once the current supply runs out.
According to our source from within the German carmaker's local distributor, the company expects to completely sell out the Golf GTS in June, and then that's it for what has come to be a popular model for the local market.
Sadly, it won't be just the Golf GTS that's bidding auf wiedersehen to the Philippine market as our source has also confirmed that the Volkswagen Jetta is also leaving our shores.
Like the Golf GTS, Volkswagen Philippines is also disposing its current supply of the Jetta down to the last unit and will cease to sell the model in the market once that happens.
As for why Volkswagen Philippines is abandoning what it essentially one of its global models in the Jetta, that's because the recently-launched Volkswagen Lavida will be taking its place as the carmaker's entry in the compact car segment--and with a price that undercuts the former from as little as PHP29,000 to as much as PHP129,000 depending on the variant, the latter certainly looks like a more attractive proposition.
As Ayala Corporation President and CEO Fernando Zobel de Ayala said during the Lavida's launch alongside the extended-wheelbase Volkswagen Tiguan, Volkswagen Santana, and Volkswagen Lamando, "Volkswagen Philippines knows how important cars are to Filipinos. This is why these cars have been designed and engineered to fit your lifestyle, and to ensure your safety and security. As part of the Ayala group, Volkswagen Philippines, has carefully taken into consideration the unique needs and aspirations of the different automotive markets and demographics in the country. What we have now--what we have launched tonight are cars that are ideal for each one of these market segments."
So, if you're planning to buy either a Volkswagen Golf GTS or a Volkswagen Jetta, you've been warned.
