KEY TAKEAWAYS
How far does the ID. Aero go in terms of range?
According to VW, the ID. Aero offers up to 620 kilometers of range. When will it be released?
It will go on sale in China in the second half of 2023 followed soon after by the ID. Aero’s European versions.“With the ID. Aero show car, we are revealing a preview of the next member of the ID. family. A car with an emotional and at the same time extremely aerodynamic design, a range of over 600 kilometers, an extraordinary amount of space, and a premium interior. With our Accelerate strategy, we are intensively driving forward the electrification of our model range. Following the ID.4, this model will be our next global car for Europe, China, and the US," said Volkswagen Passenger Cars CEO Ralf Brandstätter.
Per Volkswagen, the ID. Aero was designed based on aerodynamic principles which help the car achieve a better range. At almost five meters long, the concept vehicle has a sloping roof that contributes to achieving an excellent drag coefficient of 0.23. Thanks to the interaction of the efficient drive system, the excellent aerodynamic properties, and its 77kWh battery, the ID. Aero achieves ranges of up to 620 kilometers, making it suitable for long distances.
The ID. Aero wears turbine-like 22-inch wheels that are integrated flush into the wheel housings and sports illuminated touch surface door switches. Volkswagen adds that these exterior appointments reduce the drag even further.
Other notable exterior features include the electric sedan’s Polar Light Blue Metallic paintwork, ID. honeycomb-fitted front grille, the horizontal light connecting the LED Matrix headlamps, the dark light strip at the rear, and the honeycomb LED tail lights.
While interior details are yet to be announced, VW confirmed launch and production dates for the ID. Aero EV sedan. It will go on sale in China in the second half of 2023 followed soon after by the ID. Aero’s European versions.
