Volkswagen Philippines is set to unleash the Tharu crossover by the end of the month.
Per the local arm of the German automotive brand, the Volkswagen Tharu is designed and engineered to bring its owners to new adventures — as well as to everyday destinations — in style and comfort.
Known as the Volkswagen Taos in other markets, the Tharu will be available locally in two variants: the Tharu SE and the range-topping Tharu SEL.
According to Volkswagen Philippines, the Tharu SE will have a sticker price of P1.8 million while the Tharu SEL will be priced at P1.95 million.
The Volkswagen Tharu SE gets basic appointments such as a black and chrome radiator grille, LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps (DRL), rear LED combination lights, silver roof rails, a body-colored spoiler, and an electric tailgate.
Notably, the top-of-the-line Volkswagen Tharu SEL will wear a black grille with illumination, a pair of Matrix LED headlamps with dynamic turn signals and adaptive front lighting system. It will also have LED DRLs, front fog lamps and cornering lights, as well as LED taillamps.
It also gets black roof rails, a black roof-mounted spoiler, and a power tailgate with virtual pedal.
Both crossovers ride on 18-inch alloy wheels, but the SEL variant gets some sassy accents.
Inside, the base SE trim comes with leather seats with fabric trims, an eight-inch active display instrument meter, and a similarly-sized (eight inches) infotainment system.
The SEL grade takes things up a notch with full leather seating, a large 10.25-inch instrument cluster, and a wide 12-inch infotainment system.
Shared interior features by the two China-made Tharu variants include a wireless phone charger, keyless entry with a push start system, as well as cruise control and speed limiter.
Power comes from a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that puts out as much as 158 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque. The two models are both paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
A launch event will be held on Friday, September 29, at Karrera Café in Filinvest City, Alabang, Muntinlupa City. It will be followed by public test drives at the same venue on Saturday and Sunday, September 30 and October 1.
“The launch event and test drive weekend will be the Filipino motoring public’s first chance to get to know what the Volkswagen Tharu is all about,” Volkswagen wrote in a press release.
