Volvo equips EX90 with ‘near-sunlight lighting’

Volvo Cars has improved the interior lighting for the EX90 all-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV), giving its occupants “near-sunlight illumination.”

Thanks to a full suite of 72 SunLike LED supplied by Seoul Semiconductor, the driver and the passengers will get to experience nature-like lighting inside the Swedish carmaker’s flagship nameplate.

Volvo Cars further stated that the SunLike LED — which complement the panoramic roof and open cabin — and the non-flickering lighting enables a more natural expression of color beyond what’s achievable with LEDs used today in the automotive industry.

“By utilizing the spectrum of light emitted from the SunLike LED, the progressive materials and interior design of the Volvo EX90 stand out more clearly and without color distortion. Complementing our wood deco and other natural materials inside the cabin, the lights are central to our Scandinavian design language,” said Volvo Cars Head of Colors and Material Dan Fidgett.

On top of magnifying the aesthetics of the Volvo EX90’s progressive interior, SunLike lights also provide natural comfort to all occupants of the all-electric SUV. The suppression of blue-light, the Gothenburg-based brand pointed out, combined with non-flickering light emitting from cabin luminaires, can help reduce eyestrain and headaches of the EX90’s occupants.

All non-decorative lights in the Volvo EX90 interior — whether placed on the ceiling, floor, door pocket or boot — come with SunLike LED as standard.

“The well-being of our customers is always a main focus for interior design at Volvo Cars. Bringing in SunLike LEDs to the interior of the Volvo EX90 is another illustration of our ambition to bring in innovative technology to deliver a renewed premium in-car experience for our customers,” Fidgett added.

Volvo Cars added that it was Volvo Car Group who first used the SunLike LED for automotive use. Prior to being utilized for production vehicles like the EX90 and the Polestar 3, SunLike LED was used to bring natural light to interior spaces in residential places, hospitals, schools, and museums.
