Volvo reports 40.8% Q1 global growth
The reports are in, and Volvo Cars joins the ranks of vehicle manufacturers that experienced growth and increased sales for the first quarter of 2021. Among companies that had a good run from the beginning of January to the end of March were Rolls-Royce (global sales), Ford (North American sales), and Nissan (exceeded 500,000 units in sales of e-Power vehicles in Japan).
According to Volvo Cars, its global sales increased by 40.8 percent. Last year, Volvo sold 131,889 cars in the first quarter which was surpassed this year with a total of 185,698 units.
Volvo Cars sold 87,457 units in Europe, giving the Swedish automobile marque a 24-percent increase compared to the previous year’s sales count.
In the US, Volvo Cars delivered 27,239 units, reflecting the Geely-owned car maker's 39.8-percent increase in sales.
The highest increase was seen in the Chinese market, where Volvo Cars sold 45,242 cars in the first quarter. It topped last year’s sales figures by 117.7 percent when it sold 20,780 units.
The company has seen growth and opportunity in Europe, the US, and China where they experienced an increase of 59.4 percent, 80.9 percent, and 67.4 percent sales respectively for the month of March.
Volvo Cars sold 75,315 cars globally — that’s a 62.3 percent increase compared to last year’s March sales figures.
In March, the XC40 was the top-selling model with sales of 23,958 cars, followed by the XC60, with total sales of 21,186 cars, and the Volvo XC90 with 9,893 cars.
The Volvo Cars Recharge vehicles that come with either a fully electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain remained strong and contributed 26.0 percent of all Volvo cars sold globally in March. In Europe, the share of Recharge cars of overall sales was 39.0 percent.
According to Volvo Cars, the increase in sales was attributed to the economic recovery of the markets that managed to cope with pandemic-related shutdowns.
