The Volvo XC40 bags yet another accolade as the Swedish carmaker’s compact SUV gets the “Best Car for Towing” award at the 2022 Auto Trader New Car Awards.
According to Volvo, the title was determined by the real-world opinions and experiences of more than 150,000 motorists in the UK who rated their cars across key ownership and lifestyle criteria.
In addition, owners responding to the awards survey also commended the XC40 for its smooth driving performance and safety features, which Auto Trader — UK and Ireland's largest digital automotive marketplace — acknowledged as “the hallmark of Volvo.”
“Safety, comfort, and quality were the top attributes for consumers searching for the best car for towing, and it was the Volvo XC40 that ticked all three boxes this year, offering a premium interior, great technology, a small footprint, and that all-important ability to tow,” said Auto Trader Editorial Director Erin Baker.
Despite sitting in the compact SUV category, the Volvo XC40 does not lack power. The gasoline-powered models of the XC40, such as the 197-horsepower all-wheel-drive B4 variant, offers a 2,100kg towing capacity. Meanwhile, the new generation of pure electric Recharge XC40, like the 408-horsepower Recharge Twin all-wheel-drive model, is capable of towing up to 1,800 kilograms.
On top of its towing capacity, the Volvo XC40 also offers generous luggage space with 452 liters in the load compartment that extends the boot space to 1,328 liters with the rear seats folded down. Volvo also offers a slew of load-carrying accessories, including roof boxes (which provide up to 500 liters of additional storage space) as well as bike and ski carriers.
“Positive customer opinions are critical for the success of any car, and it is very rewarding to see the XC40 praised so much by owners for its towing ability and all-around quality. No matter which XC40 you choose – petrol, plug-in hybrid, or pure electric — it is a super tow car,” said Volvo Car UK Managing Director Kristian Elvefors.
Other awards given out by the automotive platform this year include “Best Seven-Seater Car” given to the Kia Sorento, “Best Car for Dog Owners” won by the MG5, “Best Car for New Drivers” presented to the Ford Puma, and the “Best Car for Families” awarded to the Audi e-tron.
