WATCH: Hyundai teases Stargazer MPV ahead of release in Indonesia

Hyundai is teasing its upcoming MPV offering via a video released on the official YouTube channel of the South Korean carmaker’s Indonesian arm.

The video, which you can check out here, reveals captions such as “Hyundai presents the Omesh Family Star,” and “who can be a trendsetter?”

On that note, the Indonesian-spec family MPV appears to be touted as a stylish people carrier with design cues that take after the more premium Staria.

Striking features of the Stargazer include the latest iteration of Hyundai’s grille flanked, with what seems to be LED headlamps and the Horizontal DRL on top, as well as the brand’s Distinctive H Rear Lamp. It also rides in stylish two-tone wheels.

According to Hyundai Indonesia, the Stargazer is designed to be a vehicle with an attractive appearance as well as a solution to road conditions of the country. The Sleek One Box design concept, used in the Stargazer MPV, features a one-curve design and creates an aerodynamic profile that gives the impression of a spacious interior. This concept, said Hyundai Indonesia, further emphasizes the Hyundai Stargazer as an innovative MPV that is reliable and suitable for all climates.

"As a part of Hyundai's commitment to becoming a game-changer in Indonesia, we continue to strive to provide products according to the characteristics and needs of the Indonesians. The Hyundai Stargazer is designed to set a new benchmark in its class and become an iconic product like the hallmark of an innovative and futuristic Hyundai. As a customer-centric brand, we are happy that this product can be built based on customer input and can answer the needs of active and dynamic Indonesians. We hope that Hyundai Stargazer will have a very positive response in Indonesia,” said PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia President Director Woojune Cha.

Hyundai said that the Stargazer was designed specifically for Indonesia. It has not yet been confirmed if the MPV will be released to other Southeast Asian countries like the Philippines, although during a small presser by Hyundai Motors Philippines (HMPH) attended by CARMUDI PHILIPPINES, HMPH President Lee Dong Wook said that the company is set to release a "Mitsubishi Xpander competitor." This is widely accepted to be the Stargazer. 

If and when the company does release the vehicle, the Stargazer is set to do battle with the MPV, as well as the Toyota Veloz and the Suzuki Ertiga.

Vehicle specifications, features, and prices of the Indonesian-spec Stargazer are yet to be announced.
