WATCH: Ken Block joins Audi for projects in electric mobility
American rally driver Ken Block has joined Audi for exclusive joint projects in the field of electric mobility. Block signed with Audi eight months after parting ways with Ford Performance.
“Audi is the brand that ignited my passion for motorsport. I am extremely excited to start this new chapter. Together, we will develop innovative projects and push the boundaries of electric mobility,” said Block.
He is an accomplished rally driver and has raced with Monster World Rally Team (now Hoonigan Racing Division), competing in high-level races including the World Rally Championship, Global RallyCross Championship, FIA World Rallycross Championship, and Rally America.
With such notable achievements, it's no wonder Audi decided to take Block in. The man even gets picked up from the airport and chauffeured to Audi’s HQ. You can check the video here.
According to Audi, Block was allowed to sample several historic race and rally cars from the four-ringed brand including the Audi Sport Quattro S1, the Audi V8 Quattro from the DTM, and the futuristic Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo.
Block and Audi will be working together exclusively in the field of electric mobility with immediate effect. With his impressive résumé, the DC Shoes co-founder looks to help Audi with its electrification strategy and probably win some races in future rallies.
“Electric mobility is the future,” said Block. “I see the electric car as a leap forward for us as a society in order to create something that can not only reduce emissions and hopefully make the planet a better place. But not only that: it’s also about performance. I love anything that makes me go faster. Electric cars can do that. And as far as sound goes, I have kids who don’t care about that. They think that the sound of electric cars is just as cool as the sound of internal combustion engines.”
Audi Board Member for Technical Development Oliver Hoffmann commented, “Every day, we are trying to push boundaries to create the future of mobility. Our goal is to fascinate our customers with progressive design, innovative technology, and a broad digital ecosystem. I am delighted that we were able to attract Ken Block and his team to Audi.”
Like most fans, we’re excited to see Block behind the wheel of an Audi RS Q e-tron. According to Audi, the dune drifter is set to make its mark in the upcoming 2022 Dakar Rally.
