Just last week, we covered a story about how the Porsche Cayenne set a new lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and became a record holder in the official rankings of Nürburgring GmbH’s “SUV, off-road vehicle, van, pickup” category.
This time, the German automobile manufacturer sets yet another lap record at the infamous north loop in a 911 GT2 RS.

According to Porsche, the 911 GT2 RS road-legal production car clocked in at 6:43.300 minutes on the 20.8-kilometer north section. The record was set on June 14 and in the presence of a notary.
Porsche says that the plan was to beat the existing 6:48.047 road-car record. Lars Kern, who drove the record-breaking Porsche Cayenne, achieved the feat with a 4.747-second difference.
“The 911 GT2 RS sticks to the track like glue with the Manthey Performance Kit — you feel as if you’re in a racing car, especially on faster corners. It is truly breathtaking how the car puts its 700ps down, and how incredibly well it brakes while always remaining easy to control,” said Kern.

The 911 GT2 RS used was equipped with the Manthey Performance Kit, which was developed as part of a close collaboration between Porsche's engineers in Weissach and Manthey’s Nordschleife specialists in Meuspath.
The performance kit consists of chassis, aerodynamic, and brake components specially developed for the 911 GT2 RS.
Noticeable are the aerodynamic features such as the additional flaps on the front spoiler, a carbon underbody, and additional air guide elements in the area of the front wheels.
The chassis and brake components include the track-optimized coil-over suspensions perfected by Porsche and Manthey and the special racing brake pads for the PCCB ceramic brake system.
The 911 GT2 RS rode on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires paired with the Weissach Package's light magnesium alloy wheels (20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear).
An additional water tank for spray-cooling of the intercoolers was also fitted in the 911 GT2 RS.
“The engineers at Manthey and Porsche have together developed a perfectly tuned package that allows the 911 GT2 RS to deliver even higher performance,” said Porsche 911/718 Model Line VP Frank-Steffen Walliser.
Manthey-Racing GmbH Managing Director Nicolas Raeder added, “we are proud that Lars Kern was able to improve the lap time of the 911 GT2 RS in this way thanks to the Performance Kit, developed together with Porsche and optimized in many areas.”
The Manthey Performance Kit by Porsche Tequipment can be ordered by European customers from Porsche Centers. Porsche Approved Warranty can now be purchased for every Porsche 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit.
Porsche says that other markets will follow soon.
“With these newly developed parts, we have made an extremely good car even better. The 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit is perfectly tailored to the needs of those customers who like to take their cars on track, especially the Nürburgring Nordschleife,” explained GT Cars VP Andreas Preuninger.
