When did Toyota first launch “The Pitch” ad?
The first ad was launched June last year. What were the cars featured in “The Focus Group” short clip?
Featured were the all-new 2022 GR86 and drift racing versions of GR Supras. This time, Toyota — together with Sweatpants Media — takes yet another playful poke at automotive marketing. Titled “The Focus Group,” the second installment to “The Pitch” series sees the same creative team push their exciting ideas to market the GR Supra.
You can check out the four-minute spot here.
“After such a fun and successful shoot with Toyota for the Supra doing ‘The Pitch,’ we were excited to team up again to make a follow-up for the GR86. We wanted a unique location for this one, and we’re so lucky to have found an abandoned mall outside of Chicago. With the perfect location, amazing cars, and amazing drivers, we were able to push them to the limit and make an incredibly epic film; we can’t wait for the next one!” said producer Elliot Blanco.
Blanco, along with creative director Mike Zeller, directed both “Pitch” spots. “Focus Group” shows how a selected group of individuals show authentic self-expression as they watch skilled drivers work their magic at Toyota’s fun-to-drive, stylish sports cars. They do, as one expects, show instant boredom as the sight of mundane driving and automotive advertising.
The short clip takes viewers to an abandoned shopping mall where the all-new 2022 GR86 and drift racing versions of GR Supras can be seen sliding around the tight corners of the shopping mall. TGR-NA Drivers Frederic Aasbø, Ken Gushi and Jhonnattan Castro pilot the abovementioned cars as they whip out spectacular stunts — as well as dull ones.
According to Toyota USA, the GR86 “Focus Group” installment and “The Pitch” target auto enthusiasts and sports car intenders. It will be available on all Toyota USA-owned social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
