Will BYD Cars Philippines introduce the Seagull to the Philippine market?

Such assumption was raised following the announcement of ACMobility Head of Automotive Retail and Distribution Antonio Zara III that the Ayala-backed firm will have numerous vehicle unveilings for the brand set for the second half of 2024.

Although he did not give any specific details, Zara said that one of the offerings is aimed to be around P1-million price tag and possibly one of the vehicles that were present during the trip to Zhuhai, China in 2023 (where he announced that the Atto 3 will arrive in the Philippines).

“The target price is below P1 million… Maybe that’s one of the vehicles you drove in China,” he told Carmudi Philippines.

Among those that were seen during the trip were the Seagull and the Seal.

Relatively smaller than the Atto 3, the BYD Seagull is a five-door compact electric hatchback that is engineered to have the e-Platform 3.0 and Blade Batteries. It is said to be the most affordable model in the lineup, which strengthens the possibility that the vehicle might arrive in the country.

The said model can cover 380 kilometers (km) based on New European Driving Cycle standards and is fitted with BYD’s intelligent cockpit system and a 10.1-inch adaptive rotating screen.

Meanwhile, not far from being launched in the country is the Seal — an electrified sedan that has a 520-km, emission-free range under Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Cycles conditions.

Per Zara, the string of launches under BYD will start on July 25. However, he was quick that the hint he gave was not pertaining to the one that will be launched on the said date.
