Will Changan PH release the CS55 this week?

Changan Philippines has hinted at the arrival of the CS55 compact crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV) for almost a week now. The automotive brand has posted numerous photos that show the number “55” since Thursday last week and its most recent upload was captioned “see you soon.”

Apart from this, Carmudi Philippines received an invite from Changan Motor Philippines Inc. (CMPI) that will be held this Friday. This led to the speculation that the Chinese carmaker's local arm  might formally announce the Changan CS55’s arrival in the Philippine market.

Clues to what generation of the compact crossover SUV we will be getting can be traced to the sighting of the nameplate on local roads last September.

Prior to the Chongqing-based brand’s barrage of cryptic posts on Facebook, the Changan CS55 was reportedly spotted in South Luzon Expressway (SLEX). The vehicle was said to have been lightly camouflaged and car enthusiasts were quick to point out that its aggressive front and rear end were tell-tale signs that it was the second-generation CS55 — also known as the CS55 Plus II.

In the South American market, the Changan CS55 Plus II is powered by a 1.5-liter engine mated to a seven-speed transmission. It makes 185 horsepower (hp) and 300Nm of torque. No announcement has been made about what the specifications of the Changan CS55 Plus II will be once it gets launched here in the Philippines.

We believe that it would carry the same powerplant as the global-spec model as the Changan CS55 Plus II could directly compete with similarly-powered vehicles in the segment such as the Ford Territory.

The Changan CS55 Plus II will expand the brand’s local offerings which currently consist of the Changan Alsvin, Changan CS75 Plus, and the new CS35 Plus.
