Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corportation (MMPC) launched the all-new
Mitsubishi Xpander yesterday on the eve of its much-anticipated
'Xpander Xpo' sales drive for the compact MPV, and at the event, it was revealed that delivery of the Philippine-market units will begin in
May 2018.
MMPC Senior Marketing Manager
Arlan Reyes told
Carmudi.com.ph that, since pre-selling of the Xpander started in January 24, 2018, the company has received
1,000 firm orders of the compact MPV, which means it only has
79,000 more units to go before MMPC reaches its projected sales of the model for 2018.
If you think that's a huge number, in Indonesia alone, from the time the Xpander was
launched in August 10, 2017 to the first week of February 2017,
Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (MMKI) has received
more than 50,000 orders for it, prompting the company to increase its production of the compact MPV to
10,000 units per month to satisfy the demand.
And that's the kicker because as MMKI rushes to meet the demand in Indonesia, we'll have to wait a couple of more months to get our hands on the Philippine-market Xpander.
As it so happens, at around the time the Xpander reaches our shores,
Toyota Motor Philippines is also expected to
launch the all-new Toyota Rush, its entry into the compact MPV and a direct rival of the Mitsubishi Xpander.
And just like that, May 2018 is looking to be an exciting time for the local MPV segment.
