The Philippines might be one of the countries that will soon sell the sixth-generation Honda CR-V.
The speculation grew following the growing number of areas around the world that offer the model's newest iteration— with the most recent debut done in Germany.
Though Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated (HCPI) is still mum as to when the sixth-generation CR-V will arrive in the country, Carmudi Philippines has a strong feeling that it will be offered in the country within the year.
Reinforcing the educated guess was the disclosure of the nameplate's impending arrival after the latest version was seen in Thailand. The claim was shared at last year’s Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).
To recall, the fifth-generation CR-V was offered in 2018, in time when HCPI introduced its first diesel-powered mill under the lineup. The same model received a mid-cycle refresh in 2020 at the height of the pandemic.
Aside from that, the sixth-generation CR-V would make a strong starting point for HCPI to offer electrified vehicles in its local lineup again.
The Japanese automaker’s distributor in Europe said that the sixth-generation Honda CR-V —which is “is set to raise the bar for design, practicality, and everyday usability” — will become available in the area within the year.
Per Honda, the European-spec CR-V will be offered with a choice of either a full hybrid (e:HEV) or a plug-in hybrid (e:PHEV) powertrain (the first time in the European market). Both variants feature a 2.0-liter four-cylinder direct injection Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine.
The e:PHEV powertrain — which can cover 82 kilometers in pure electric mode — utilizes the same lightweight and high-output on-board electric motors as its e:HEV stablemate to provide impressive acceleration, quick charge times and a highly competitive all-electric only range. Honda added that if the battery temperature is at 25 degrees, a 100-percent state of charge can be achieved from empty in around two and half hours.
On the other hand, e:HEV option comes with the most advanced iteration of the brand’s award-winning e:HEV powertrain (first seen in the Civic hatchback). It has a power-dense lithium-ion battery and two compact, lightweight electric motors to complement the gasoline mill to shift seamlessly between EV, hybrid, and engine drive — making it ideally suited to all driving scenarios.
Further, the all-new Honda CR-V offers more interior space for occupants as its wheelbase grew 40 millimeters (mm) longer, translating to 16mm more legroom for rear passengers and 118 percent bigger hauling capacity.
While it has retained the nameplate’s familiar silhouette, the design evolution increases its road presence. The e:HEV and e:PHEV variants can be distinguished by their own grille design. They share the same thin headlights that match the signature daytime running lights. At the rear are the vertical brake light and turn signal combination.
In terms of safety, the all-new Honda CR-V boasts an updated suite of Honda Sensing passive and active technologies. The aforementioned model is also fitted with the Honda Sensing 360, the company’s all-new omnidirectional safety and driver assist system, which removes blind spots around the vehicle and further contributes to collision avoidance by reducing the burden on the driver.
“The all-new CR-V builds upon everything the iconic model stands for – progressive design, a premium cabin, class-leading levels of safety, practicality and comfort, and efficient and responsive performance,” Honda Motor Europe Senior Vice President Tom Gardner was quoted as saying.
“This latest iteration is the ultimate SUV package, offering a unique, dynamic and premium product that perfectly suits the current demands of the European market,” he added.
