‘Wonder Boy’ Paz finishes 7th in Portugal FIM CEV-Repsol race
McKinley Kyle Paz, the Philippines’ first rider to join the 2021 FIM CEV-Repsol European Championship Moto Category, showed improvement, finishing seventh in Race 1 at Autodromo do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal.
Prior to the race in Sunday, Paz — who is racing under VR46 Master Camp — finished 13th place in the qualifiers of the Round 4 of the FIM-sanctioned race series.
In a meeting with reporters after Race 1 last Sunday, Paz (nicknamed “Wonder Boy”), was elated with the accomplishment and vowed to do his best and show the same intensity in the next race.
However, his victory was cut short that day after failing to finish Race 2.
Back in Round 3, Paz claimed the 18th spot in the qualifiers, but did not finish Race 1 and crossed the finished line in 21st place on Race 2.
The next round will be held in Alcaniz at MotorLand Aragón on July 25.
In an earlier interview, Yamaha Motor Philippines (YMPH) Motorsports and Safety Promotions Head Jordan Cornista said that they are expecting Paz to have a good finish Paz in the maiden race of the competition. YMPH Marketing Assistant Section Manager Toni Boi Acuesta also urged Paz to just savor the moment. “Enjoy, be proud, and raise the flag of the Philippines with Yamaha,” Acuesta prior to his debut in the Moto2 division.
To note, Paz was the victor of the 2019 Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) UB150.
