Unlike most small-displacement adventure motorcycles offered in the country today, the Yamaha PG-1 takes on a neo-classic approach instead of the modern and aggressive styling typical of similarly-touted two-wheelers.

Immediately noticeable is its retro appeal starting with its round headlight with two turn signals protruding on each side, H-shaped front fork with rubber boots cover, and old-school-style fender.

Bared is its engine while the 5.1-liter gas tank is housed by robust-looking fairings. The rear end also gets circular lamps (with turn signals) as well as a simple reflector on the rear fender.

More notable features come in the form of its upright handlebar, aptly fitted leather seats, analog instrument cluster, and round side mirrors.

Powering the Yamaha PG-1 is a 115 cubic centimeter gasoline engine paired with a constant mesh four-speed transmission. The air-cooled, four-stroke mill can produce as much as 8.8 horsepower with 9.5 Newton-meters of torque.

Deceleration is handled by a hydraulic disc brake at the front and a mechanical leading disc brake at the rear. They are accompanied by a telescopic fork set up at the fore and a swingarm-type suspension at the rear.

The Yamaha PG-1 rides on 16-inch spoked wheels. They are shod in block-patterned tires and help the dual-sport motorcycle clear the ground by 190 millimeters.

Customers looking to purchase the Yamaha PG-1 will be set back some P96,400. It comes only in Matte Brown.

To commemorate the arrival of the PG-1, the motorcycle brand staged the Explorer’s Camp, which saw members of the motoring media experience first-hand the capabilities of the motorcycle.

Right after they took the Yamaha PG-1 through its paces in an off-road camp in Antipolo, participants — including Carmudi Philippines — joined the official launch of the adventure motorcycle in Bridgetowne, Pasig.

There, they enjoyed various activities prepared by Yamaha Motor Philippines, which included test rides on an off-road course, games, and apparel booths.
