Yamaha PH throws full support behind Paz in 2021 FIM CEV Moto2 Euro Championship
Yamaha Motor Philippines (YMPH) expressed its full support for McKinley Kyle Paz following his performance at his debut race in the 2021 FIM CEV Moto2 European Championship.
Paz, known as “The Wonder Boy,” placed 18th on the grid for Round 3 of the annual tournament held in Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya after clocking 1:47.813 in the qualifiers.
He showed an impressive run to reach 11th place in Race 1, but did not finish after experiencing technical issues. This challenge remained a factor in Race 2, which affected his positioning in the race, reaching the checkered flag in 21st place.
“Even if it was not an ideal start, it was still a historic debut for the young Filipino rider who has officially placed himself among the best young riders in the world,” YMPH noted in its statement. The company added that it was “an inspiring moment for all future Filipino riders who want to represent the country in international competition.”
Meanwhile, YMPH Marketing Assistant Section Manager Toni Boi Acuesta echoed the brand’s continued support to the child motorcycle prodigy.
“Kyle still showed really well and made us proud for being the first Filipino to be part of the FIM CEV Moto2 European Championship. The goal for Kyle last leg was first, for him to race safely, to gather great learnings and as much experience the bigger racing scene as this will help him to prepare for the coming leg. With the great support coming from Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team for sure the Wonder Boy will be the next and be the first Filipino in MotoGP soon,” Acuesta told Carmudi Philippines.
Paz, who was the 2019 Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) UB150 champion, raced in the international meet under VR46 Master Camp Racing team. In his virtual meet prior to the race, Paz admitted that he was both anxious and excited to join the race and that he is making major adjustments in terms of riding the 600cc motorcycle as he is more accustomed to riding a Yamaha Sniper150 in his races.
“Kakaiba yung handling, magaan pero powerful. Pero ngayon, medyo nageenjoy na ako gamitin (the handling is different. It is light but very powerful. But I am beginning to enjoy it,” he said in an online meet-and-greet prior to the Round 3 races.
Further, Paz and the VR46 Master Camp Team are currently preparing for the next round slated on July 4 in Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal.
