Yamaha PH to bring in WGP anniversary-edition YZF-R1

Following Yamaha’s recent move of introducing the World Grand Prix (WGP) edition models in the country, the brand's followers in the Philippines may expect more models to in the limited-version series.

This is because Yamaha Motor Philippines (YMPH) Marketing Assistant Section Manager Toni Boi Acuesta revealed that by next month, they will be launching R-Series models that will join the limited WGP anniversary-edition Sniper155 and its scooter Mio Aerox.

Acuesta told Carmudi Philippines that incoming limited issue models will be spearheaded by the Yamaha YZF-R1.

However, he clarified that the launching of the WGP-anniversary edition Yamaha YZF-R1 might not coincide with the retail period for the two other models. “Most likely, the availability might be after January,” Acuesta shared.

“We are now studying the exact number of samples to be released, but this will also be a limited edition, just like the latest models that we have launched,” he said during an interview.

Being a part of the special edition line, the WGP anniversary-edition Yamaha YZF-R1 units are expected to wear the same liveries that are seen with the other two motorcycles. Instead of the blue or black base color, the forthcoming offer will likely have a pearlescent white body color with red graphics with hints of yellow for its decal and badge. It is also expected to wear red front fenders, the 60th World GP Anniversary decals and gold wheels.

Apart from that, the said upcoming offering will probably be powered by the same 998cc EU5 engine with an optimized Launch Control system (LCS) and has a Ride-by-wire Accelerator Position Sensor with Grip (APSG) throttle.

It might also have the same features that are found in the Yamaha's superbike such as the three-mode Engine Brake Management (EBM) system, two-mode Brake Control (BC) cornering anti-brake lock system (ABS), and the 320mm front discs brakes with high friction pads.

If the price trend continues for the special-edition line, the Yamaha YZF-R1 will be probably be retailed at around P1.253 million.
