The comebacking nameplate will have its official introduction next year.Where will the Toyota Tamaraw be built?
The Toyota Tamaraw will be assembled in TMP’s facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna. The leading automotive manufacturer in the country shared the foretaste of the comebacking nameplate at its 35th anniversary celebration. To make it more memorable, it was no less than Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda who revealed the Tamaraw’s concept version.
According to Toyoda, the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw will be officially unveiled in the country next year and shall be assembled in TMP’s facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
The TMC helm said that the arriving Tamaraw will be based on the IMV 0 platform, allowing the forthcoming model to offer numerous body applications.
“I truly believe this is a product that can enhance the quality of life for many people and provide new economic opportunities,” Toyoda said. “At Toyota, we believe people come first. We believe in building cars to serve the real-life needs of our customers.”
“I’m very proud of the fact, that in 2024, for the first time ever, IMV vehicles such as the Next Generation Tamaraw, will be produced as CBU’s right here in the Philippines at our Santa Rosa plant. This represents an additional investment by Toyota of P4.4 billion,” the TMC chair added.
In a separate interview, TMP Vice-President for Product Planning Nico Bravante clarified to Carmudi Philippines that the upcoming utilitarian vehicle will not cannibalize the market of the already-successful Toyota Lite Ace since they fall on different categories. Per Bravante, the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw is under the one-tonner segment, and the Lite Ace, just below it.
Last February, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. already announced that Toyota will bring back the popular workhorse of the 90’s in the Philippines. Once here, the next-generation Tamaraw will be competing against the likes of the Mitsubishi L300 and Isuzu Traviz.
In addition, the concept vehicle is expected to be at this year’s Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival scheduled for today up to August 24 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
