Roy Robles, managing editor of Zigwheels Philippines (sister company of Carmudi Philippines) finished the second leg of the 2022 Toyota GR Vios Cup strong after finishing the Autocross Challenge at the podium again.
For the second time in a row, Robles placed second in the Sporting-Media category, a part of the day-long event where members of the press and their influencer counterparts showcased their racing skills by navigating through the specially-designed obstacle course.
"It was an amazing event. The competition was fierce and despite the heavy rains, everyone was eager to tackle and test their skills on the expanded track. The Toyota Vios, with all the modifications and on a proper track, really made me feel confident in my drive," Robles said.
Getting second (place) again still puts me in the running to win it all on November 19, the final leg,” he added.
Ahead of Robles in the division was Jamil Lacuna while Ronald delos Reyes trailed them at third spot.
In the media division’s promotional class, Pablo Salapantan was at the top spot while Niko Villegas and Siegwald Go got second and third places.
The top three winners in the Celebrity-Promotional group are Miguel Romulo, Ashley Gosiengfiao, and Carla Lizardo while the frontrunners for the cluster’s Sporting class are Jules Aquino, Arron Villaflor and Enzo Pineda.
Toyota GR Gran Turismo Cup racers were also back to join the fun at the Autocross Challenge. Luis Moreno placed first, followed by Russel Reyes and Mark Elman who finished the race in second and third places, respectively.
On the other hand, the circuit race — which is the program's main event — is made up of 28 participants who battled it out in the Promotional, Sporting and Super Sporting classes.
For the second leg’s Promotional Class, Happy Hotels/OT Racing Team’s Jay Lao finished first, followed by Toyota Team Cebu’s Alan Palacios and Jarond Mesina.
JB Racing/Toyota San Fernando’s Jiro Garbes got the first place in the Sporting Class, while Toyota Team Cebu’s Russell Cabrera and RMS Cars Racing Team’s Royce Sarmiento claimed the second and third spots, respectively.
Lastly, Bryan Co of R Racing Team finished ahead of the drivers who competed in the Super Sporting Class. Toyota North EDSA-Obengers Racing Team’s Inigo Anton, and R Racing Team’s Gerard Loy trailed him for the second and third place finishes.
The Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup is organized in cooperation with Bridgestone and Petron, and is supported by Brembo, Denso, OMP, Tuason Racing, AVT, 3M, Rota, myToyota Wallet, and Kinto One.
