ZR2 tops 2022 Chevrolet Silverado range
Chevrolet introduced the new 2022 Silverado, a significantly updated version of the its best-selling truck in the US.
New for 2022 is the first-ever Silverado ZR2, Chevy’s new flagship off-road truck and the latest addition to the brand's lineup of off-road, factory-installed lifted trucks. The rest of the range comprises of the LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trims.
A fully redesigned interior for all Silverado trims feature a redesigned, horizontal instrument panel, along with a new center console with available electronic shift control. The interior also carries a 13.4-inch-diagonal color touchscreen and new 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable digital instrument cluster.
Every Silverado features a new front fascia with new daytime running lamps, which have been programmed with animated walk-up and walk-away functions, in addition to swiping turn signal patters on select trims.
The ZR2’s suspension upgrades, enhanced off-road technology and exterior enhancements were developed for peak off-road performance everyday driving comfort.
The ZR2 is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 420hp and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Its off-road toys include uniquely tuned springs with Multimatic dampers, which increase maximum front and rear suspension travel, and Terrain Mode which allows one-pedal rock crawling.
As for its exterior bits, the ZR2 wears specific 33-inch off-road MT tires, a skid plate package, and new high-approach steel front bumper that enables an improved 31.8-degree approach angle, compared to other Silverado off-road models.
The rest of the Silverado range retains the sturdy, roll-formed high-strength-steel construction of the bed floor. The bed also packs 12 standard tie-downs, and innovative features such as power operated tailgate, and what Chevrolet calls the six-position Multi-Flex tailgate.
Chevy Safety Assist, a suite of six standard active safety features, is standard on every trim. The Safety Assist includes Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam auto high beams.
