The A1 is all about simplicity and it reflects strongly in its dashboard layout. The Audi Multi Media Interface is foldable and can be easily hidden to avoid a cluttered appearance. While it does have Bluetooth connectivity, it still lacks automatic climate control which is typically something you’d expect considering the price range. Leather finishes can be found along the interior with the steering wheel also featuring a leather trim. The trunk is significantly spacious for practical use, however, the rear seats are definitely a little cramped despite having the capacity for 5 people.

The vehicle’s dimensions are 3, 973 mm x 1,746 mm x 1, 422 mm. However, thanks to its three-door design, the A1’s body appears longer than your typical hatchback which definitely grabs some attention. In addition to this, the black paint on its smooth body curves on the sides of the car also contributes to making it look less small. Next to its signature grille shape on the front are distinct slanted headlights as well as the badge, making it look sleek and clean. The large alloy wheels tie it together by adding a unique, sporty touch.

The A1’s steering in normal mode is designed to make everyday driving easier, which is why the steering can feel very laid back. The A1 is outfitted with a 4-cylinder 1.4-liter TFSI engine paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch S-Tronic transmission. With a top speed of 204 kmph, it can churn out 122 hp and 200 Nm of torque. It can successfully go from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.9 seconds. While not overwhelmingly impressive, it’s definitely reasonable considering the vehicle’s size and weight. On sport mode, it still packs a nice punch on the road. However, it is noticeably sluggish when set on the normal driving mode. Thanks to its relatively efficient fuel economy, it can average out 12.2 kmpl for a few days out in city traffic.

The A1 has the anti-lock braking system, standard hill-hold start assist, an immobilizer, electronic stabilization program, as well as airbags. While there are no parking sensors, there is a crash sensor.
