BAIC B80 Wagon Review

BAIC B80 Wagon Overview
BAIC’s most common offerings are city-oriented everyday vehicles that fall under the ‘SUV’ designation on paper but don’t quite live up to spec. Thankfully, they’ve remedied that minor issue with their recent showcase: the BAIC B80 Wagon. Debuting just last April of this year in the Metro Manila Auto Show, the Wagon is a unique, rugged, powerful, and spacious SUV whose design concept was directly influenced by the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. This body-on-frame SUV is a robust and performance-oriented model that is right at home for city driving as it is for true off-road excursions.
With an introductory price of 4.398 million PHP, this most certainly isn’t your ‘budget vehicle’, but the hefty price tag might just be more than made up for by the output and features that BAIC promises with the B80 Wagon.

BAIC B80 Wagon Interior
The B80 Wagon's interior strikes a balance between tough functionality and sophisticated comfort. The interior showcases a spacious seven-seater cabin, complete with upholstered seating specially designed for maximum comfort during long drives, and comes in a combination of leather and cloth.
Its dashboard has an ergonomically utilitarian arrangement, with the touchscreen infotainment system taking center stage. A digital instrument cluster presents critical driving information in a readily-legible manner. Leather-wrapped steering wheel and metallic details around the cabin add a touch of elegance. Ample storage compartments and cupholders keep everyone's belongings organized, and the B80 Wagon's expandable cargo space can be maximized by simply folding the rear seats. For all of its ruggedness, however, the cabin is roomy and comfortable, making it ideal for both everyday commuting and long excursions.

BAIC B80 Wagon Exterior
The B80 Wagon takes direct inspiration from the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, but it’s more than just a homage vehicle, especially since it brings in its own unique stylings. Like the G-Wagen, the B80 Wagon showcases a classic boxy shape which emphasizes its more utilitarian leaning. This no-nonsense design isn’t all for aesthetics, though, since the overall construction is also intended to maximize interior space.
With a ground clearance of 215 mm, combined with prominent wheel arches, the B80 Wagon cuts quite the imposing features. The B80 Wagon front fascia is a decidedly brutalist take, showcasing vertical slats and a domineering aesthetic, with the BAIC emblem proudly displayed front and center. A rugged bumper with integrated fog lights and skid plates, as well as large prominent round LED headlights, complete the look from the front.
True to its off-roader stylings, the side panels are flat and clean, and the addition of side steps for easy ingress and egress, as well as external hinges on the doors and other choice areas give off that added reinforced feel. Keeping true to its ‘practical’ leanings, the B80 Wagon comes equipped with large, all-terrain tires on all-alloy wheels. It also boasts a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, a sizeable roof rack, and a discreet shark-fin antenna. The whole exterior aesthetic is rounded out with a sturdy rear bumper with built-in steps and a tow hook, vertical LED taillights, and the much-needed (and iconic) rear-mountain spare tire.

BAIC B80 Wagon Ride & Handling
The BAIC B80 Wagon's ride and handling reflect its off-road-oriented design. It excels at navigating difficult terrain and uneven ground thanks to its body-on-frame design and strong suspension, while its high ground clearance helps it traverse obstacles with ease. However, the off-road orientation results in a slightly stiffer ride on concrete roads, especially at lower speeds. Light and simple to use, making it workable in small situations despite its size, and its overall build makes it versatile and quite responsive. Overall, the B80 Wagon values off-road functionality over pure on-road comfort and agility, so while it's still right at home in the city, going off-road is where its features truly shine.
-
BAIC B80 Wagon Engine & Fuel Consumption
The BAIC B80 Wagon is powered by a robust 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine paired with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, delivering a substantial 280 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque.
-
BAIC B80 Wagon Braking & Safety
Keeping true to its utilitarian appeal, the B80 Wagon isn’t exactly the most comprehensive when it comes to safety features. It does come with all the standard passive and active safety features found in all modern vehicles today, but the availability of things like Diver Assistance suites may depend on availability, trim level, or other factors. For a deeper and more comprehensive dive into the B80 Wagon’s safety features, it is best to visit your nearest BAIC dealership.

BAIC B80 Wagon Verdict
