BAIC M20 Overview
With the increasing demand for multipurpose vehicles, the Chinese automotive company BAIC introduced its own addition to the MPV segment, the M20. Although considered a compact MVP, it is noticeable that they have maximized the interior cabin which can seat 7-8 people which is also one of the things that set it apart with any of its class.
BAIC is a Chinese car manufacturing company with headquarters in Beijing. It is one of the top vehicle manufacturers in China and has also expanded to other regions. In the Philippines, BAIC vehicles are exclusively distributed by Bayan Automotive Industries Corp (Bayan Auto), a subsidiary of Universal Motors Corporation.
The BAIC M20 is one of their latest offerings. It is not just eye-pleasing and surprisingly spacious but also has a very upscale and modern design prioritizing functionality than luxury. You can choose from multiple color variants such as Maple Red, Crystal Gold, Cloisonne Blue, City-Wall Grey, Nest Silver, Jade White. It is available in the Philippines in two variants; Comfort that prices about P578,000 SRP while the Ultra-Luxury is at P598,000 SRP.

BAIC M20 Interior
The M20 has a very generous cabin interior, enough for 7-8 people, and also a decent amount of cargo space perfect for family get-aways or new business enthusiasts looking for ways to transport goods. Additional space can be acquired for baggage by folding the rear seats and also because of its roof rail feature.
You’ll also find various storage spaces for cups, bottles, and lamps so this car is also ideal for the long hauls. It has automatic climate control with rear A/C/ vents and accessory power outlets as well as a low fuel warning light. The seats are also adjustable with headrest for the rear seats.
As for the entertainment system, it has a touchscreen display integrated with 2DIN Audio, CD and DVD Player, FM/AM Radio, Bluetooth Connectivity, USB and AUX Input, Navigation System, and Voice Control all connected to the front and rear speakers.
The difference between the Comfort and Ulta-Luxury in the interior department would be the equipped second-row captain chairs of the Ultra-Luxury that offers for more spacious seating.

BAIC M20 Exterior
With its height of 1,783 mm, and the dimension of 4,440 mm x 1700 mm, you may notice that the BAIC M20 looks taller and sizable than the other compact MPVs such as the Toyota Avanza and Honda Mobilio.
Looking at the front fascia, you’ll notice the matte-chrome honeycomb grille with projector-type circular headlamps on both sides. Some silver trim borders accentuate the fog lamps as it also surrounds the additional air vent.
On the sides, you’ll notice some lines that give it a little bit of a sharper or edgier outlook that complements the black lining for the window glass. At first glance, Baic M20 seems to be just really like other MPVs in the market, there’s not so much distinction and mainly made to become an affordable car for small families.
Other exterior features are the power antenna, roof rail, and the rear window wiper.

BAIC M20 Ride & Handling
The MacPherson independent suspension system handles the front suspension of both variants while Comfort is equipped with leaf spring suspension for the rear and five-link spiral spring system for the Ultra-luxury.
The 2790 mm wheelbase contributes to the stability needed when doing sharp turns or changing lanes while steadily having a firm grasp on the road. In spite of the price, Baic M20’s wheelbase is considerably wider than most MPVs in its class. This provides comfort and driving stability as well.
When it comes to the steering, it is equipped with a rack and pinion for the gear type and has a turning radius of 5.5m. This car was poised to have precise, electrically-assisted steering.

BAIC M20 Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering this car is a 1498cc 1.5L Dual VVT inline 4 Cylinder 16 Valve DOHC Gasoline engine that can fire up to 114 hp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 150 Nm at 4300 to 4500 rpm. It shifts gears via 5-speed manual transmission. BAIC developed a drive-by-wire throttle system for this car that can efficiently engage and disengage the belt-driven air-con compressor to allow maximum torque when needed.
Baic M20 is also Euro 4 compliant with a top speed of 150 kmph and comes with a 3-year/100,000 km warranty.

BAIC M20 Braking & Safety
As for the braking, disc and drum handle both the front and rear. For half a million price, it is surprising that the manufacturers were able to equip this car with an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD).

BAIC M20 Verdict
There is no wonder that this car is very affordable with a decent array of safety and convenience features. The engine might not be as powerful as its competitor, this car seems to be perfect for those families who are looking forward to having a nice car that is enough for daily transport, grocery shopping, and road trip.
