BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo

While the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo has a sense of individualism over the 3-Series sedan on the outside with its coupe-like design, the overall interior cabin of the car is exactly the same in appearance as that of the sedan counterpart.

The BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo has a driver-focused cabin, with three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and part-TFT instrument console instilling a sense of elegance in the cabin. The center console looks wide with its trapezoidal-shaped panels like AC vent housings, climate control console and the touchscreen infotainment system. The smooth layer flowing between the upper and lower parts of the dashboard makes the cabin look wide and premium.

The space levels on the inside of the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo are decent, as the sloping roofline has eaten up a bit of headroom for taller persons. Rest assured, it gets all the bells and whistles similar to the 3-Series sedan and doesn’t feel underequipped at all. 

The BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo has been introduced not only as a more practical offering over the 3-Series sedan, but the former also happens to be a more stylish avatar of the latter. With the coupe-like sloping roofline and squatted stance, the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo surely looks very sporty, yet hugely practical.

The front end of the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo is more or less the same as that of the sixth-generation 3-Series sedan, which has already been replaced by an all-new seventh-generation model. The double kidney grille here, which comes with chrome surrounds and vertical inner slats, are flanked with stretched eyebrow shaped headlamps on either side. The front bumper, however, has been mildly restyled with revised air intakes and fog lamp housings, making it looks much sportier.

The side profile of the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo is a fashion statement in itself, with the sharply sloping roofline all the way to the boot lid and frameless doors bringing a world of a difference. The crisp crease running through the doo panels bring in a sense of athleticism to the side profile too.

At the back, the sharply raked windscreen of the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo ends up in a stubby looking boot lip, which comes with a pop-up style rear spoiler mounted on its top. The LED tail lamps of the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo have been lifted off from the 3-Series sedan, which does not look like an after thought at all.

The BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo not only looks sporty but also has got sporty genes under its skin. Having the traditional BMW pedigree in its chassis and suspension setup, the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo feels sure-footed on both stretches as well as corners, despite the bulky looking profile of the car. The ride quality, is though, on a slightly firmer side.

The only engine and gearbox combination employed for the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Previously found in the sixth-generation 3-Series sedan, this engine has the ability to pump out a maximum power and torque outputs of 190 PS and 400 Nm respectively.

For a car of this stature, the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo has got all the necessary equipment when it comes to safety, with the car having front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, reverse camera, dynamic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, traction control, rain-sensing wipers and follow me home headlamps.

The BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo is not an ‘all show and no go’ car -  it actually succeeds in maintaining a fine balance of style, sophistication and practicality in one single package.
